Wisdom of Daily Practice 2018 – Day 59 – 28/01/2018

morning

Day 59 – Each morning is a new beginning

Each morning brings with it a promise, a new opportunity and a new beginning. Each morning we can make a different choice and to turn in a different direction.

I love mornings. I always loved them.

Apart from when I was burned out and getting up in the mornings was really difficult. I would drag myself out from bed, make some tea, sit in the kitchen. Sometimes I would get so anxious thinking about all the things I had to do and having to go to work I would end up crying. It all felt like too much.

I would then drag myself to have a shower and get ready for work. Put my make up on just like putting on a mask. Tell myself I have to do this, I have to keep going.

Looking back on that time I feel so much compassion for a younger me – struggling and doing her best. But so exhausted and unhappy.

And I know it doesn’t have to be this way. I lived through it and my life is very different now. I’ve been on a long journey.

And it all starts each morning with the little choices we make. Over time those choices accumulate and grow into a powerful momentum.

Practicing a few minutes of deep breathing or mindfulness or loving-kindness or yoga or mindful movement once in a while will help for those few moments. But showing up for yourself fully and doing the same practices for a month every day will have a completely different effect on your whole being.

We forget that the only constant in life is change so we might as well embrace it and move with it mindfully and eyes wide open. With compassion and loving-kindness.
